Internet Research Group Initiates
New Research Into Branch Office Networking

Los Altos, Calif., August 26, 2003 – Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced the release of its new report on branch office networking.

“During the heyday of the dot-com era, Web systems were overbuilt while branch office infrastructure was starved,” noted Peter Christy, co-founder of IRG. “To realize the benefit of today’s Web enabled applications it’s essential that the target users have effective network access to the application servers, since only then can the older, less-efficient, “manual” process be eliminated and the full cost savings of the application reaped. Universal access is essential, and that means everywhere.”

This new study, titled The 2003 Branch Office Subsystem Market Report: Reengineering Branch Office Infrastructure, details the applications, technologies and market segments that enterprises consider most important as they re-configure their branch office networks.

This evolving category of products and services—what Internet calls the Branch Office Subsystems Market—will be one of the most lucrative future networking markets. There are approximately 4.9 million businesses in the US employing 114 million people at 6.3 million locations. This translates to roughly 1.3 million remote offices, mostly operated by large companies.

The study is available now. A perspective for this study can be found can be found by clicking here.
