Internet Research Group Initiates New Research Into
Branch Office WAN Communication

Los Altos, Calif., July 22, 2004 – Los Altos, California: Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced that it has published its latest new report on branch office IT and communications infrastructure.

“The branch office is one of the most interesting arenas for the evolution of IT architecture, strategy and communications technology,” noted Peter Christy, co-founder of IRG and co-author of the report. “We expect to see the WAN branch office communications infrastructure market to grow from $1.7B in 2003 to almost $5B in 2008. The branch office is where you see critical IT initiatives pulling in different directions. It’s a very fertile ground for product and system innovation, and new business creation.”

This new study, titled Branch Office 2004: The Perfect Storm of IT Issues and Initiatives, details the applications, product categories and technologies contributing the most to delivering high-value high-performance applications to a distributed workforce, to business partners and to customers, while at the same time helping drive overall IT and WAN costs down.

This evolving category of products and services—what IRG calls the Branch Office Subsystems Market—may prove to be one of the most lucrative networking markets in the foreseeable future, according to IRG principal, John Katsaros. “An increasing and surprising large percentage of the enterprise workforce work in “remote” locations and these users are critical participants with emerging business critical applications.”

The study is available now. A prospectus for this study can be found can be found by clicking here.
